BMJ’S RELATIONSHIP WITH DRAIN COMMISSIONERS

The drain code is a statutory framework under which rural and urban drainage problems are solved by Michigan’s Drain Commissioners.  Under this framework, BMJ assists Drain Commissioners in this unique problem-solving process to address the issues of land drainage from problem identification to resolution.

Increasingly, land drainage rights have come into conflict with agency rules representing a differing  understanding of the natural world in interaction with human activity.  The interaction between the drain code and legislation reflecting that understanding has changed the way many drain commissioners approach these drainage issues.  BMJ has kept pace with the changing requirements, driving innovation in the field.

BMJ has 40 years of experience in utilizing the drain code to accomplish projects for drain commissioners representing drainage districts in their counties.  Petitioned projects, maintenance and special work offer unique challenges to the drain office.  BMJ’s expertise with the drain code allows them to navigate those challenges.
