CIVIL ENGINEERING

BMJ Engineers & Surveyors, Inc. has a well rounded staff of design engineers and support technicians. It includes six professional engineers and two graduate engineers. All engineers are equipped with and have received advanced training in AutoCAD Land Development Desktop and have access to software commonly used in the practice of engineering. These include WaterCAD for water modeling, SewerCAD for modeling of sanitary sewer systems, resources for storm water hydrology and hydraulics and Microsoft Office for spreadsheets, scheduling and communication.

The growth of our firm’s expertise over the years has led to a broad client base including:

Municipalities & Governmental agencies (including the State of Michigan), Commercial and residential developers, Industrial and manufacturing concerns.

The engineering group at BMJ is structured to operate within a system of quality assurance that includes regularly scheduled meetings to discuss project progress, engineering and computer procedures and direction for office coordination.

The engineering staff is supported by three draftspersons, two survey support technicians and two office assistants.

An engineering project begins with a project meeting to establish protocol for symbols, line types, layering and referencing. BMJ can create a custom symbol library specific to the client’s needs and preferences. This library, when used for coding data as it is gathered in the field, allows for a smooth transition of information from survey to design to a final format for the client’s use.

During project design, our senior engineering staff monitors project progress and project quality. The design is checked to assure that it will:

    -Perform the intended function
    -Meet the client’s standards
    -Satisfy requirements of reviewing agencies
    -Provide clear, correct and concise information to project bidders

A final design check is made of all project information to assure that quality standards have been maintained before the completed engineering is used for bidding purposes.
